Macquariums
A project at Kris' Haven

Buying something from this page helps keep old computing equipment out of landfill. Here's what's generally for sale:

  • A fully made Mac Aquarium. A$150. Save A$10 if you have your own 3V (or multi) power adapter with 3.5mm plug to power the lights. You just add water and fish.

  • You can have a fully gutted shell, tested tank and platform for half the cost of a complete setup. A$75. An extra A$40 if you want me to do the lighting. The rest is standard.

  • Macs and Mac bits. I end up with a lot of bits, keep an eye on the inventory. Any money is helpful when buying aquarium supplies, or I'll swap them for cases I can use. If you're looking for a particular part, please make a request. Last time I updated this page I had; a PC compatible Mac, a 660AV, a II-something, a portrait display and a few little Classics in various conditions.
And here's what my inventory looks like at the moment:
  • Mac SE/30 Aquarium, complete.
    [Pic] Sold.
  • Mac Plus Aquarium, complete.

  • Mac SE/30 fully gutted, complete.

  • Mac 512 fully gutted, tested tank and platform. Lighting installed

FAQ

  • Q: Are these real Macs?

A: Yes. These are real Mac cases from computers that did work at some time in the past. (They weren't working by the time I got to them, and anyway I passed on the insides to a local Mac frea... uh enthusiast.) Some older Mac cases even have the designers' signatures molded into the back of the inside of the case.

  • Q: Can I have a specific model?

A: Yes, if I have it in stock. Just give me a little time to swap parts, gut a case or fit some lights as necessary.

  • Q: What are the tanks made from?

A: Glass. Stuck together using aquarium-safe silicon adheasive. Glass is easier to keep clean than any plastic. No need to worry about sharp edges though, all the glass is cut with safety edges. After assembly the tanks are tested for leaks by leaving them standing, filled with water, on dry paper for at least 24 hours.

  • Q: Can you ship overseas / post interstate?

A: No, sorry. I seriously doubt there is any way the glass tanks would survive the postal system. If you live outside of the Perth Metro area, your only chance is to find a friend who can pick one up and handle all the packing, padding and praying themselves. Or try this US company that appears to be selling them.
